The Brazilian subsea construction market remains active regarding tendering activity. Pipelay contractors have been busy submitting bids for the Norte-Sul Capixaba gas pipeline. Helix, Acergy, Global, McDermott and a Technip/Allseas consortium submitted bids for the 93.2 mile (150km) shallow water portion of the line early August, while Helix, Saipem, Subsea 7 and Technip/Allseas placed bids last week for the deepwater 12.4-mile (20km) section of the line.
Also tendering at this time are gas export lines that will run from the Guara and Tupi Nordeste fields to the Tupi export line that is connecting to the Mexilhao PMXL-1 platform. In the meantime, Petrobras is preparing to release to the market a tender requesting the construction of three flexible pipelayers. One of these units is to be a special vessel equipped with a very high top-tension capacity not yet seen in the market.
